I’m gonna introduce 3 gyudon chain!
Yoshinoya,Sukiya and Matsuya!
You’re gonna see these restarants all over Japan.
Yoshinoya is a well-known Japanese fast food chain, recognized for its gyudon (beef bowl) dishes. Founded in 1899, it began as a family-run shop in the fish market of Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. Over the years, Yoshinoya has grown significantly, both within Japan and internationally, adhering to its founding philosophy of providing “tasty, cheap, and fast” food.
Yoshinoya’s menu primarily features bowls of rice topped with thinly sliced beef and onion, simmered in a mildly sweet sauce that includes soy sauce and mirin. Besides beef bowls, the chain also offers a variety of other bowl dishes, including chicken, pork, and seafood, as well as side dishes like miso soup and salads.
The brand is notable for its fast service and casual dining environment, catering to a wide range of customers, from busy office workers looking for a quick meal to families seeking an affordable dining option. Yoshinoya operates numerous outlets across Japan and has expanded its presence globally, with restaurants in countries like the United States, China, and Southeast Asia, adapting its menu to suit local tastes while retaining its core Japanese identity.
My favorite menu is Normal gyudon!

Sukiya is Japan’s largest gyūdon (beef bowl) restaurant chain, boasting a significant presence with locations across all 47 prefectures in Japan and an international footprint. Founded in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Sukiya is part of Zensho Holdings and is known for its slogan “save time and money.” The chain distinguishes itself by serving gyūdon even during the ban on American beef imports by sourcing beef from Australia and also offers a variety of other dishes, including a pork bowl variant called tondon.
I strongly recommend Takana Mentai Mayo Gyudon!
If you go to Sukiya , Please try Takana Mentai Mayo Gyudon.
“Takana mentaiko mayo beef bowl.” It’s a dish that combines gyudon (beef bowl) with takana (pickled mustard greens), mentaiko (spicy cod roe), and mayonnaise. This combination offers a rich blend of flavors—salty and spicy from the mentaiko, tangy from the takana, creamy from the mayonnaise, all complementing the savory beef and rice. It’s a modern twist on the traditional gyudon, adding texture and depth with the unique flavors of each topping.
